#Sound forge download was corrupted install
I am running on a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.There are many audio editors on the market that can do the job, specially when advanced features are not required. I spent days installing and uninstalling and researching online till I got to this point of resolution. Presumably, the x86 refers to the old chips by Intel like the 8086? It installs the 32-bit version in Programs (x86) folder and the 64-bit version in the Programs folder. Yup, you can separately install both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions. You can install both the Sonar 32bit and Sonar 64bit versions on Windows 7 64-bit environment. It does open files faster, but I guess the sound quality is exactly the same. So you really don’t need it unless you’re running low on processing power due to lots of tracks and plugins. You can open all your old Sonar files in Sonar 64-bit (but without directX 32-bit plugins).ĬW tech support told me you don’t get better sound quality in Sonar 64-bit, you just get more processing power. If you open a file created by Sonar 64-bit in Sonar 32-bit, it will say file is incompatible or corrupted. I had to learn that from CW tech support.

And Sony’s website does not make it clear anywhere that SoundForge uses 32-bit directX plugins, even the new SoundForge 10.

I got the feeling from the CW tech that there was no patch on the horizon to allow Sonar 64-bit to use 32-bit directX plugins. But your 32-bit directX effects won’t load (this is in the release notes, but no mention of what a monumental problem this will create for you if you load Sonar 64-bit version only).

Unless you have alternate effects you can patch in that will do the same thing for you, which most of us don’t. For me that’s a few years of things I would always like the option of going back to where I left off. This means that your old projects you thought you were going to tweak in Sonar 64-bit, you can’t. Apparently, these plugins are directX 32-bit plugins, and Sonar 64-bit will not recognize them. CW does not mention this anywhere, which I consider rather user unfriendly, but most of your old CW projects, which probably use some directX plug-ins not made by CW, will not let you pick up where you left off.Įxample: I love the plugins that come with SoundForge and none of them work in Sonar 64-bit. Sonar 64-bit won’t work with Soundforge pluginsĭON’T install Sonar 64-bit version, or only do it in addition to the 32-bit version.
